Drambuie is giving the classic cocktail The Rusty Nail a shot in the arm. And not a tetanus shot either.
The Scottish liqueur maker has enlisted The Regatta hotel at Toowong to help propel Rusty Nails back on to bar menus and make the classic Sixties cocktail sexy again.
To celebrate, Drambuie will give one lucky Style reader a $100 voucher to spend at one of the Regatta’s weekly Friday night events in June.
The Walrus Club, an atmospheric speakeasy downstairs at The Regatta, is hosting A Night With The Nail every Friday this month. Live jazz will amp up the warmth of the evening as the honeyed whisky liqueur starts to work its magic.
Made with one part Drambuie, two parts whisky and a twist of lemon over ice, the Rusty Nail is up there with martinis, negronis and old-fashioneds in cocktail mythology.
It is said the first Rusty Nail was conjured in a smoky New York bar in the Sixties. This is the same era that generated the Rat Pack of Hollywood crooners Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, the sexist suit-wearing city boys you see in Mad Men, and the alleged ill-fated trysts between president John F. Kennedy and siren Marilyn Monroe.
You think that lot weren’t necking Rusty Nails by the gallon at the infamous 21 Club? Course they were!
