Keep your keys safe and you could win a breathtaking Whitsunday experience

Put your thinking hat on for just one minute as we ask: how can you combine contributing to a reduction in stolen cars in the Mackay police district with experiencing the best of the Whitsundays?

Well… We are offering you the chance to win a night for two and a scrumptious breakfast at the Coral Sea Resort, Airlie Beach. All you have to do is tell us how we can keep our keys safe!

It’s a generous prize, we know, but it’s an important crime prevention message we need to spread.

Car thefts are a big problem in our city and we need your help to come up with the best and most effective ways of keeping thieves off our keys!

For good measure, we are also offering a voucher for two adults to take a Great Barrier Reef Adventure Day Cruise through Cruise Whitsundays.

On a gusty, windy day, (you can tell by the wind in my hair) Alyce Carter from Cruise Whitsundays handed over the Great Barrier Reef Adventure Day Cruise voucher

Look appealing to you?
To be eligible to win these prizes – we just need to make you famous! Sound cryptic? Let’s start by covering off on why and how…

Why? No matter where you live in the Mackay police district, you would somehow have heard that car thieves are active! They are now working in ways that many residents are simply unfamiliar with… Many of our cars are being stolen only once the car keys have been found! And unfortunately, thieves are finding our keys too easily.

Examples include: in the car ignition; on outdoor dining tables; in a tailor made key cabinet; in a key bowl; on a kitchen bench; the old nail hanger in the wall trick… you get the picture.

How? How can you play a part in tackling this problem? Submit a short video, up to 30 seconds in length, which addresses the following two criteria:

Deliver at least one crime prevention message – how can a resident reduce the chance of becoming the next car theft victim?
Help us raise awareness of this issue among the Mackay police district residents.
To enter:

You must be a resident of the Mackay Police District.
Create your video submission following the above criteria.
Upload your finished video submission to YouTube. We recommend uploading the video as Unlisted. This means that only the people you share the link with will be able to see the video. See here for help on uploading videos to YouTube.
Complete the Off Keys Mackay Competition submission form here. This form include the Terms and Conditions, parental consent and video submission.
Entries close 11.59pm on September 4 2017.
All submissions will be judged by myself and Sergeant Nigel Dalton, with input from Detective Inspector Nikki Colfs and Superintendent Bruce McNab.

The selected winner not only takes home the prizes, but will have their video entry displayed on the Mackay police district myPolice site and also the Queensland Police Service Facebook page.

REMEMBER! In the online world, you need to stand out to be heard. Deliver your messages a little differently…  we like different.

Use humour, colour, props, wigs even if you like… pick your filming location well.

We are absolutely delighted with the support received for the Off Keys Mackay initiative from Whitsunday businesses, Coral Sea Resort and Cruise Whitsundays.

Their generous donations have raised the bar to a level which we hope will motivate many residents to participate. In the end… we want our crooks to be off keys in Mackay!

Please note: As per our terms and conditions, the actual entrants must be 17-years-old or above. However, if you have anyone under the age of 17-years-old participating in your video, please ensure that the parental consent part of the online application is completed. If this has not been completed and we believe someone under the age of 17-years-old has been featured, we reserve the right to disqualify the entry.
Go for it, give it a tweet!
