Fancy sipping on a Reserve Champion cider from the home of apples, Tasmania's Huon Valley? Since 2012 Willie Smith's has been crafting beverages true to type, showcasing the original cider apple varieties as well as distilling apple brandy.
With everything made within sight of the organically certified orchards, it's not surprising how fresh and delicious these ciders are. They're certainly proudly reinstating Tassie's old nickname of the Apple Isle.
Kingston Black is a famous cider apple that originates from Somerset in Britain and it's at the heart (or should that be core?!) of the limited release cider of the same name, affectionately known as Black Beauty.
We've tasted Kingston Black and are delighted to be able to share it with you - we have three three half cases of this award-winning cider to be won, each containing six 750ml bottles and valued at $160!
In early June, Kingston Black was awarded the Reserve Champion at the world famous, and highly prestigious, International Cider Competition at the Royal Bath and West Show (RBWS) held in the UK at Shepton Mallett, Somerset.
The RBWS is the largest agricultural show in the South West and is regarded by many as the bastion of traditional cider in the UK – the spiritual home of cider really. The judges’ comments finished with “Brilliantly executed. Bravo.” Now you can’t ask for more than that!
Kingston Black is not alone in the awards department either. From its home at The Apple Shed, Willie Smith's has crafted a number of acclaimed ciders from heritage apples. Innovation too is a hallmark of these Tasmanians orchardists, cider-maker and distillers: from apple brandy to whisky barrel-aged cider and cider-washed cheese, the tastes are always finely crafted.
