Dedicated to nurturing an alternative film culture, the festival programs unique, quality independent films that transgress the status quo and challenge the conservative conventions of filmmaking. The festival is devoted to renewing local interest in independent and experimental film as part of an international underground film culture and aims to change an ingrained culture of cinematic complacency and revitalise an enthusiasm for cinema.
Which means three days and four nights of absolutely crazy cinematic experiences, from new offerings like the surreal, blood-soaked Mandy, starring genre fave Nicolas Cage, to classic schlockers like Maniac Cop and Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. There are provocative comedies like New Zealand DIY SF Mega Time Squad, transgressive and angry cinema like The Misandrists and the controversial Revenge, rediscovered classics like Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds, and much, much more.
And now we’re offering our readers a chance to win a free taste.
