When it comes to the cinematic world, light and dark each have their place. While there’s nothing wrong with indulging in the mastery of a blockbuster, sometimes going off the beaten track into arthouse territory can yield some serious surprises. Continuing its sterling reputation for showcasing some of cinema’s most interesting and subversive material, GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque is shining a light on visionary director Peter Strickland – a man who is not afraid to get weird.

Peter has a set of particular obsessions that inform his curious catalogue of work – meticulous sound design, a fixation on the past as a conduit to the future, delight in the analogue, plus a strong taste for wit and the absurd. From noir revenge thriller Katalin Varga through to In Fabric, a hectic horror movie about a cursed dress (and even directing Björk’s multimedia tour of Biophilia), Peter’s work touches on the otherworldly like no other. Curious to dip your toes into the director’s compelling body of work? Start with his international arthouse breakthrough Berberian Sound Studio, before being swept up in sensuous erotic fantasy The Duke of Burgundy.

The Weekend Edition is giving you the chance to win a double pass to a film of your choice in Peter Strickland: Capturing the Uncanny film program at GOMA. Enter below for your chance to win.

Don’t want to miss out? Tickets for Peter Strickland: Capturing the Uncanny are on sale now.
