Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

South East Queenslanders are encouraged to hop onboard free public transport services to assist in the recovery efforts, and return to the CBD.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said TransLink and qconnect services across all impacted Local Government areas would be free until last service Sunday.

“We know the mud army will be moving around over the coming days, so the Palaszczuk Government wants to make that as easy and accessible as possible,” Mr Bailey said.

“This covers services from Coolangatta all the way up to the Fraser Coast and across to Toowoomba, because just about every community in between has been impacted in some way.

“There will be no need to tap on, or off, and the go card readers will be disabled at stations.”

Mr Bailey praised the resilience of Queenslanders during these trying times.

“Queenslanders are a resilient bunch, but they need all the help they can get at the moment,” he said.

“While it’s only a small gesture in providing free transport, this will go a long way towards helping with the clean up effort.

“This will also help support our CBD businesses who have been doing it tough over the last two years.

“I encourage everyone to pull on some gumboots and hop onboard to help out your fellow Queenslanders during this difficult time.”

Transport through private operators, including private school buses, will not be free during this period. Customers are encouraged to check with their operator for more information.
