The Big Issue is calling all junior artists to help us design a cover – and the theme is holiday fun! We’re inviting kids, aged 12 and under, to show us what the festive season means to them.
The artworks can be done in any medium: pencils, paint, texta, crayon, collage, glitter! We’re looking for bright, colourful, imaginative pictures that will dazzle passers-by.
The designs will be looked over by a judging panel that includes The Big Issue’s cartoonist Andrew Weldon, who has written and illustrated numerous children’s books.
The winning work will take pride of place on the cover of Ed#675, on sale 25 November to 8 December. The artist will receive $500 worth of books from our friends Text Publishing Company, who believe books make a difference to people’s lives. And, on top of all that, their nominated school will receive $1000 worth of kids’ books from Text, too! Plus, they’ll be helping vendors earn an income with the sale of every magazine that features their spectacular work.

Download the cover or create your work on an A4 page, and get designing! (Pro tip: leave room for the masthead! That’s the Big Issue logo in the top corner. Our cover size is 195mm wide by 270mm high.)

kidscover@bigissue.org.auMake sure you include an adult’s name and phone or email contact on all entries, plus the name and age of the child. And hang onto any original artwork until the competition is finished, in case we need to rescan it.
We can’t return your masterpieces, but we will publish as many highly commended entries as we can possibly squeeze onto a page – and in an online gallery!
