A modern Mexican classic of romance and magic realism provides the basis for The Royal Ballet’s new full-length work, reuniting Christopher Wheeldon with the creative team who transformed Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter’s Tale into dance, composer Joby Talbot and designer Bob Crowley.
Journey into Laura Esquivel’s captivating family saga of food and forbidden passions (also the inspiration for Alfonso Arau’s multi award-winning 1992 film) where Tita (Francesca Hayward) falls in love with Pedro (Marcelino Sambé) but is unable to marry him as she must instead care for her mother (Laura Morera). Tita’s emotions spill out through her cooking, and influence everyone around her in startling and dramatic ways.
