About the Community Art Exhibition
The Community Art Exhibition (CAE) is a long-running and beloved showcase of artistic talent from within the City of Joondalup community. The exhibition aims to promote and support arts and culture by providing an opportunity for local artists to expand their networks and promote their practice by exhibiting their work to the public. Who can enter an artwork?
All entrants must be a City of Joondalup resident or a member of an incorporated not-for-profit art association located within the City. This also includes high school students aged 12 and above who are enrolled in a secondary school in the City.
Where and when is the Community Art Exhibition being displayed?
The exhibition is held at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre. Artworks will be viewable to the public from Monday 20 March – Saturday 15 April 2023 during centre opening hours.
What awards and prizes can I win?
All artworks will be judged by an independent panel of arts professionals for the following awards:
Most Outstanding Artwork: $4,000
Highly Commended Award: $1,500
Artists can also elect to nominate themselves for the following awards:
Artist in Focus Award: $3,000 and in-kind solo exhibition
The Artist in Focus Award supports artistic development with a solo exhibition hosted by the City and a $3,000 cash award. The winner of this Award must commit to an exhibition in 2024 and will receive in-kind support from the City to produce and promote the exhibition, along with a cash fee of $3,000 towards labour, production and materials.

Celebrating Joondalup Award: $1,500
This award is for artworks that represent the City of Joondalup. Artists who nominate themselves for this category must provide a statement that explains how their artwork represents the City.
Student Award: $750
All student entries are eligible for this award.
Votes from the public during the exhibition will determine the winner of the $500 Popular Choice Award.
What sort of artwork can I enter?
The choice is yours! Painting, sculpture, photography, collage, textile, mixed media – all mediums are accepted. There are some size and weight restrictions and cultural protocols that must be adhered to, so make sure to read the Terms and Conditions and Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
How much is it to enter?
Standard entry is $30.00 and student entry is $10.00.
How do I enter?
Please submit the entry form at the bottom of this page. Your artwork must be COMPLETED at the time of submission as artwork changes after entry are not permitted. An image of your finished artwork and payment of the entry fee is required to complete the application.
Want to know more?
The City is hosting two free information sessions for those interested in exhibiting. This is the chance to hear more about the exhibition and awards, how to submit an online entry and tips for exhibiting artists. Attendees will also be able to complete an online entry at the end of the session with the City’s Visual Arts Team.
