Meet Carl Merrison, a Gija and Jaru man from Halls Creek in the Kimberley, who’s turning childhood memories into rad children’s books that celebrate Indigenous experiences and stories.
Carl’s books, like Backyard Footy and Backyard Tennis, are inspired by his outback upbringing—where fun came from improvising with whatever was around. Old milk crates became basketball rings, and trees turned into goalposts. These stories are more than just fun tales; they’re about friendship, community, and the importance of seeing diverse faces and stories in books.
To celebrate Carl's incredible work, we're giving away three book packs! Each book pack includes Backyard Footy, Backyard Tennis and My Deadly Boots.
