We want students across Australia in years 4–9 to show us what respect looks like in your world. Download the storyboard template and use drawings and words to create your story—don’t forget to include the word ‘respect’.
The winner will have their storyboard turned into a 30 second animation by a professional animator and will receive a $500 gift card for them and one for their school.

Competition Name
The ‘Respect Competition’ (the Competition) is a competition run by the Commonwealth of Australia through the Department of Social Services (the Promoter).
Competition Period
The opening date and time for the Competition is 9:00am on Thursday 1 August 2024 and the closing date and time is at 11:59pm on Sunday 15 September 2024 (Competition Period). All times are AEST, as applicable in the Australian Capital Territory.
Entries received outside of the Competition Period will not be considered for the Competition. The Promoter reserves the absolute discretion to extend the closing date and time of the Competition.
Eligibility
The Competition is open to Australian residents who are:
Primary school students in years 4, 5 or 6 at Australian primary schools; and
High school students in years 7, 8, or 9 at Australian high schools.
The Competition is comprised of two categories, the:
Australian primary school student category; and
Australian high school student category.
Employees of the Promoter, its contractors and/or their immediate family members may not enter the Competition. Immediate family member means children, grandchildren, and/or sibling for the purposes of the Competition.
The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of each entrant and to exclude and/or disqualify any entrant who does not meet eligibility requirements. By entering the Competition, the entrant warrants that they are eligible.
How to enter
To enter the Competition, entrants must submit one original storyboard of an idea for an animation about what respect looks like through their eyes and in their world. The storyboard must include the word ‘respect’.
The storyboard must be:
no larger than 5MB in size;
provide content for an animation that will be no longer than 30 seconds in length;
substantially in the form of the competition template; and
in PDF format.
The storyboard must be accompanied by the following details:
the entrant’s lead point of contact’s full name and contact details (including email);
name and address of the entrant’s school and the contact details (including email) of that school;
the category the entrant is participating in;
names of all children participating as part of the entry; and
confirmation that an accompanying consent form from each listed child has been submitted as part of the entry.
The Promoter will accept only one (1) entry per entrant.
Entrants must be the creator of the storyboard they submit.
The Promoter will not accept storyboards that have been previously published or submitted to, or that have won, any other competitions.
The Promoter will remove inappropriate content and/or prevent an entrant from submitting new entries at its sole discretion.

A committee of judges (Judging Panel) will be appointed by the Promoter.
Cox Inall Change will review all submissions to ensure initial requirements as specified at paragraphs 7-14 have been met. Where Cox Inall Change considers any requirement has not been met due to an unintentional error, Cox Inall Change at its discretion, may provide the entrant with an opportunity to correct this via email.
Incomplete, indecipherable or ineligible entries will be deemed invalid. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including the entrant’s identity, age and address).
Entrants which the Promoter determines to have used fraudulent information or practices, such as false email addresses, plagiarism, or any other illegitimate behaviour to gain advantage over other entrants, or otherwise breaches these Terms and Conditions, the entrant will be disqualified from the Competition.
This is a competition of skill, as such chance plays no part in determining the winner.
Entries will be assessed against the following criteria:
The quality of the narrative, interest, and quality of content provided; and
The degree to which the storyboard addresses the topic: inclusion of respect.
Cox Inall Change will assess the entries and create a shortlist of entrants and an overall winner will be chosen by the Judging Panel. All entrants acknowledge and agree that there is an element of subjectivity in the judging criteria.
Competition Prizes
The winning entrant in each category will be awarded following the closing date and time of the Competition. The decision is final and binding on every entrant. The winning entrant of each category will receive a $500 prepaid Visa gift card, along with a $500 prepaid Visa gift card to their school library. The winning entrants will each have their storyboard animated, and this animation will be uploaded to the
www.respect.gov.au website and shared via social media channels.
In each category 5 runners-up will be selected and awarded a $250 gift card.
All entrants who were shortlisted by Cox Inall Change as per paragraph 21 have their storyboard published on the
www.respect.gov.au website and shared via the Promoter’s social media channels.
Each entrant who satisfies the initial requirements will receive a certificate recognising their participation.
The Competition prizes are as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. Prizes are not transferable.
Prizes are subject to availability and where reasonable the Promoter reserves the right to substitute any Prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
There is no entry fee and/or purchase necessary to enter the competition.
Any costs associated with entering the competition or claiming of a Prize is the responsibility of the entrant. The Promoter takes no responsibility for any costs incurred by the entrant (and there will be no reimbursement of any costs) in the course of taking part in the competition.
The winners and runners-up will be notified by email and advised how Prizes can be claimed after the closing date and time of the Competition and prior to the end of November 2024.
The onus is on the winners and runners-up to contact the Promoter within 7 days to claim the Prize. If the winners and runners-up fails to do so, the Promoter reserves the right to withdraw the Prize from the initial recipient and pick a replacement.
