Based on the book ‘Red Dragon’ by Thomas Harris, and extrapolating on the film ‘Silence Of The Lambs’, American thriller-horror series ‘Hannibal’ acts as a kind of prequel to what you know about one of fiction’s most insane serial killers.

The TV series explores the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter (eerily played by Mads Mikkelsen) and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler (Hugh Dancy), who is haunted by his ability to empathise with serial killers.

Like Season One, some of the seasons get so surreal in Hannibal: Season Two that you feel like you’ve entered a dream. Or nightmare. Must-see viewing for fans of recent thriller-horror series such as ‘Dexter’, ‘Bates Motel’, and of course the superb ‘American Horror Story’.  Michael Mastess
