Beatles fans will have a one off chance to see rare footage of the band when StudioCanal releases The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years, screening from September 16 for a limited season of one week.

The film is Academy Award® winner Ron Howard’s authorised and highly anticipated documentary feature film about The Beatles’ phenomenal early career.

The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years is based on the first part of The Beatles’ career (1962-1966), the period in which they toured and captured the world’s acclaim.

Ron Howard’s film will explore how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr came together to become this extraordinary Beatles phenomenon.  It will explore their inner workings – how they made decisions, created their music and built their collective career together – all the while exploring The Beatles’ extraordinary and unique musical gifts and their remarkable, complementary personalities.

The film will focus on the time period from the early Beatles’ journey in the days of The Cavern Club in Liverpool to their last concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966.

The studio work of The Beatles during this 1000 days of touring grew exponentially in richness and innovation from Please Please Me through to Revolver.  Using studio chatter and outtakes, the film gives an intimate, bird’s-eye view of the band’s creative process at the legendary Abbey Road.  And incredibly, as they left the road at the end of 1966, their studio output grew in power, innovation and exploration, changing the face of recorded music and defining their place in culture.

This film is the story of The Beatles’ journey to the top of the world, fueled by their live performances, music, and extraordinary personalities – and how they made the remarkable decision to walk away to focus exclusively on writing music and recording it in the studio. It’s the story of a group of artists choosing to reinvent themselves entirely in order to evolve and survive.

The release of the movie combines with that of a book The Beatles: On Camera, Off Guard (Book & DVD) by Mark Hayward (RRP $59.99)

It perhaps seems impossible that any images of the Beatles remain unseen, but this fascinating book accompanied by a DVD of rare 8mm footage provides a whole new insight into the Beatles, in pictures.

There are more than 200 images including several early photos of The Quarrymen - when John first met Paul; the filming of A Hard Day's Night at Paddington; the Beatles in the Bahamas in 1965 filming Help; John and Yoko at home; and Paul on holiday in Frank Sinatra's Learjet.

Encapsulating the culture, music and spirit of the 60s, this unique book brings us closer to one of the world's all-time favourite bands and is sure to delight any fan. While it could be said the the pictures speak for themselves, interviews with many of the photographers give us an extraordinary insight into the background of each shot, while extended captions give further behind-the-scenes information to complete this fascinating package.

The film that is on that DVD was from 8mm film and was shot without any sound, hence it does not have audio.

WIN:  Redland City Bulletin has one special prize pack (This includes an Admit Two pass to opening night at Palace Barracks on Friday, September 16 plus a copy of the book The Beatles: On Camera, Off Guard) to give away.   To be in the draw to win, enter your details below by 9am on Monday, September 12. Conditions may apply and winners will be contacted and announced online.
