Win a "Let's Play! 100 Popular Games for Children"

http://www.mooreformums.com.au/freebies/78-freebies-you-can-win/256-giveaway-lets-play-games-for-children.html

I have one copy of "Let's Play! 100 Popular Games for Children" by Shelalagh McGovern to give away. You'll never be stuck for ways to entertain the kids ever again! Regardless of their age, or how many kids you're trying to entertain, there's a game in here for every occasion. For more information, read my review of this wonderful book.

"Let's Play" features games for large groups, small groups, indoor games, outdoor games, theatre sports games, physical games, word games, and lots, lots more.

Zip, Zap, Zoom - game #63 of 100 games.

For ages 10-12, for eight or more players, can be played in a small space and takes only 5-10 minutes.

How to play: This is a great game that creates group focus. It is quick and exciting. Make sure you take the time to explain the game and only play elimination once everyone is clear on the directions.

Players stand in a circle. The aim of hte game is to keep the clap (energy) moving around the circle. Players pass the clap around the circle by placing their hands together (making a clap sound) and then moving their hands in the direction they want the clap to go. Players call out a command (see below) as they pass the clap.

Start by passing the 'zip' clap around the circle. The leader begins by making a sharp 'zip' sound and a fast clap, which they pass to the person on their right. They in turn pass it on to the next person on their right. They in turn pass it on to the next person on their right. It must go one at a time. Once the group has done a full ortation of 'zip' introduce the 'zap' clap into the circle. 'Zap' is a clap in the opposite direction - to the left. Practise the 'zap' in the group.

Then introduce the 'screech' which changes direction of the clap. A player passes a 'zip' to the player to their right and they put their hands up and say 'screech'. Then th eplayer who 'zipped' must turn the other way and 'zap' the person to their left. The 'zap' continues around the circle until another player decides to say 'screech' and it changes direction again. Practise this.

Introduce passing the clap across the circle with the 'zoom'. After receiving a 'zoom' a player must choose to zip, zap, or zoom someone else. You cannot screech a zoom. You can only zoom someone who is not directly on your right or left.

To play elimination, start the zip round the circle. Allow the players to 'screech', 'zap', 'zip' and 'zoom' one another. If a player makes a mistake such as says the wrong word, does not clap or does not respond quickly, they are out. They must sit down for the rest of the game. Keep the energy moving quickly. As players become better at it, become toughter on the rules. When there are only three players left they play without 'zoom'. The two players left become the winners. Play a few times. Remember, you can't 'screech' a 'zoom', must 'zoom' across the circle and a fast game is a good game.
