Win Animal Kingdom on DVDFirst time director David Michod portrays a well-worn Australian crime parable, but he does so with such artful characterisation and well-timed execution of suspense that really sets this film apart from anything released this year. Based loosely on the Walsh Street police shootings in Melbourne in 1988, Animal Kingdom is an invitation into the seedy world of a family entrenched in armed robbery, led by the twisted Andrew ‘Pope’ Cody (Ben Mendelsohn). The story is told through the eyes of estranged relative Joshua Cody (James Frecheville) who is taken in by his grandmother Janine (Jacki Weaver) when his mother overdoses. The film is gripping from the first frame and the sense of urgency the director creates is consuming. Jacki Weaver steals the show as a chilling nanna whose fear of loneliness is translated into obsessed maternity - a mother who kisses her sons just a second too long on the lips, but there are brilliant performances by all. Animal Kingdom is a modern Australian classic.

1. Information on how to enter form part of these conditions. Entry into the competition constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.
2. Entry is only open to NSW residents. Employees (and their immediate families) of the Promoter, and its agencies associated with this promotion are ineligible to enter the promotion. Winners under 18 years of age must be accompanied be a responsible adults.
