Scotland’s Puppet State Theatre Company presents a captivating adaptation of Jean Giono’s environmental cult classic of a shepherd, his dog, and their mission to transform a barren land into a forest, acorn by acorn.

A charming combination of comedy and puppetry, this timely production incorporates the sensory effects of wind, mist and forest scents. Exploring the themes of conservation and sustainability, The Man Who Planted Trees is an inspiring production that shows us the difference one man can make.

Excerpt from the Sydney Opera House website

Laughs, heartbreak, war, regeneration, scented breezes, sparkling wit, the best dog puppet ever. Perfect for children and grown-ups. Terrific.’ The Guardian, UK

This production has it all!

A captivating adaptation of Jean Giono’s classic environmental fable, this is the story of a shepherd, his dog, and their mission to transform a barren land into a beautiful forest, acorn by acorn. As the years pass, their fledging forest must endure two World Wars and unscrupulous developers to flourish.

Hear the wind, feel the rain and smell the lavender in this multi-sensory theatrical delight. An engaging mix of storytelling, comedy, and puppetry, The Man Who Planted Trees is an inspiring production that shows us the difference one man (and his dog!) can truly make.
