Incense, crazy-busy street markets, dumplings and firecrackers - can having a Chinatown in one corner of your city get any better? Um, yes - at Chinese New Year!
4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and City of Sydney are bringing contemporary Chinese art to the party for Cinema Alley, an outdoor film event in the heart of Chinatown. Parker Street, Haymarket will be well stocked with food stalls, overtaken by pedestrians and bathed in the film projects of leading Chinese artists such as Jun Jang, Ou Ning and Cao Fei and Chen Chieh-Jen. 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art will also be screening the best entries from their ongoing animation project, where animators from Sydney share their stories of the city. If Cinema Alley sounds up your alley, make sure you book yourself a seat - and wander up the right one.
