How does the competition work?
C4YC will be run in three phases: Round 1 (entry phase), Round 2 (voting phase), Round 3 (cook-off).

Round 1 – entry phase
The entry phase of the C4YC competition starts on 17 January 2011 (AEST) and closes on 9 February 2011 at 8pm (AEST).

After submitting your application the best two to five entries from each state* - NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, SA, TAS and the Northern Territory will be selected.

Each nominated candidate will have the opportunity to meet a leading chef in their state, who will also be their short-term mentor. This chef will then choose one of the candidates to go on to Round 2.

If you enter, you must be available to meet the leading chef (or restaurateur) for your state (or territory)* for a personal interview in your capital city between 13 February and 17 February 2011.

If selected as a finalist from your state/territory* you’ll be required to:

make a video of your cooking skills (demonstrating how you prepare your dish) using the Sony Handycam® Camcorder DCRSX43R supplied. Maximum duration for the video is 2 minutes, so edit your entry as necessary to fit the time limit; and
upload your video to the Cook for Your Career site.
Videos must be completed and uploaded by 22 February 2011 by 9.00am (AEST).

* Residents of the Australian Capital Territory and all other territories of Australia (except the Northern Territory) will be judged within their closest State category. For example, the Australian Capital Territory will be judged within New South Wales.

Round 2 – voting phase
The public voting period begins Tuesday, 22 February 2011 when the top 7 national semi-finalists will be named and videos will be available online.

For competitors the start of Round 2 means it’s time to campaign for as many public votes as possible on the Cook For Your Career Facebook page. Encourage friends and family to vote, as the more votes the greater the potential to win.

The top 2 grand finalists will be announced on Tuesday 8 th March 2011.

Round 3 – cook off
The C4YC Grand Final Cook-off will be held in Melbourne on Friday 11th March 2011 at 4.00pm.

The two candidates with the most votes will be flown to Melbourne to take part in a public cook-off as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in March 2011. This is where the ultimate winner will be announced.

* Residents of the Australian Capital Territory and all other territories of Australia (except the Northern Territory) will be judged within their closest State category. For example, the Australian Capital Territory will be judged within New South Wales.

How will entries be judged?
Round 1 judging
Judging of the Round 1 will be conducted by a panel of judges who will select between two and five candidates to represent their state/territory*. Each of the entrants selected to be interviewed will be contacted (by phone) by the chef/restaurateur by 5.00pm (AEST) Friday 11 February 2011 to organise a time for an interview. Round 1 of the competition will be completed by 18th February 2011 at 5.00pm (AEST). Successful candidates will be notified using the contact details provided in their entries.

The nominated candidates meeting with the restaurateur and/or chef in their state/territory will need to make their own travel arrangements to and from the restaurant. Candidates will be required to take part in an interview/trial in the chef’s kitchen (the format of this interview is at the discretion of the individual chef/restaurant and may require more than one day attendance which will be discussed with the candidates at the time of being notified.

After meeting with each of the candidates between 13 February and 17 February, each chef/restaurateur will nominate one candidate to represent their state/territory for the next round of the competition. Nomination will take place by 4.00pm on Friday 18 February 2011. Each of the seven nominated candidates will be contacted by HOSTPLUS by phone no later than 5.00pm on Friday 18 February 2011.

Round 2 public voting
The voting phase of the competition will require the seven successful candidates to record and upload to the C4YC website a video submission. This submission needs to show the candidate preparing their signature dish and should be of a duration of no more than 2 minutes. The preparation of the dish can be edited to fall within this timeframe. This video must be completed and uploaded by 22 February 2011 at 9.00am (AEST).

The public voting phase will commence on 22 February 2011 from 12 noon, using Facebook. It would assist each of the seven candidates in their ‘campaign’ to have their own Facebook account to get friends and family on Facebook to vote for them.

Members of the general public will be invited to vote for their preferred candidate via the C4YC website. Australian residents who cast a vote will enter the draw to win a return flight from their nearest capital city to Melbourne (Victorians exempt) to attend the Cook-off and participate as a guest judge. If the winner of the public vote (permit number LTPS/11/00299) is aged less than 15 years and nine months they must have parental consent to travel alone. Travel arrangements for any parent/guardian accompanying a minor will be at their own expense and not covered by the promoter. Voting opens from 12 noon on 22 February 2011 and closes 4.00pm on 7 March 2011. The winner will be randomly selected at the Promoter’s office and contacted by HOSTPLUS by phone by 5pm on Monday 7 March 2011. They will also be named via Facebook and Twitter by midday on Tuesday 8 March 2011. If the winner does not accept the prize when notified on Monday 7 March 2011, the prize will be redrawn and a new winner announced. The new winner will be contacted by HOSTPLUS by phone no later than 10.00am on Tuesday 8 March 2011. They will also be named via Facebook and Twitter by midday on Tuesday 8 March 2011.

Round 3 judging
The two candidates who receive the highest number of votes from the public will be contacted by HOSTPLUSby 5.00pm Monday 7 March 2011. They will also be named via Facebook and Twitter by midday on Tuesday 8 March 2011. They will then move through to the cook-off phase of the promotion as a finalist.

The two finalists will be flown from their nearest capital city to Melbourne (Victorians exempt) to compete in a public cook-off to be held at Federation Square at 4.00pm on Friday 11 March 2011. Accommodation in Melbourne will be provided for the nights of 11-12 March 2011 for each finalist.
