The Chocolate Diet: How to Eat Chocolate and Feel Great about it
Is chocolate better for us than red wine? Does it contribute to weight gain? Are there any health benefits? Respected Australian scientists Dr John Ashton and Dr Lily Stojanovska have collaborated to stump the myths surrounding the world's most favourite, delicious, seductive treat.
In a breakthrough revelation for chocoholics everywhere, The Chocolate Diet tells you how to incorporate chocolate into your daily life and not feel guilty about it affecting your waist line. Full of facts, tips and mouth-watering recipes, this is essential reading for anyone who can't say no ....
Choc Fact
Cocoa is very rich in theobromine, which is known to increase muscle stimulation and energy and cause weight loss. Dark chocolate has much higher concentrations of theobromine than milk chocolate. Theobromine is a vasodilator; it widens the blood vessels thus reducing blood pressure. Consuming a small amount of good quality dark chocolate may help achieve our weight-loss goals sooner and protect our heart.
Choc Indulgence
Heat 200 millilitres of milk over a hot stove. Add a teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of good quality pure raw chocolate powder and a tablespoon of good quality chopped dark chocolate. Allow the chocolate to melt in the milk, and when the mixture is near boiling, remove it from the heat, pour into a tall mug or glass, and sprinkle some cinnamon powder, another very healthy spice, on top. Cheers to your health!
Dr John F Ashton is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and specialises in food and nutrition research. He has authored five highly successful books in the area of food and health, and has had a particular interest in the health benefits of chocolate for several years.
