STEPHEN FRY AND THE GUTENBERG PRESS DVD GIVEAWAY

Stephen Fry and The Gutenberg Press DVD Cover Madman DVD | Region: 4 | Release Date: 18th May, 2011

Surely the perfect person to host a documentary about the very first printing press and the way it revolutionised the world. Stephen Fry and the Gutenberg Press is released on DVD and to celebrate we have five copies for you to win!

Invented in the 1450’s Johann Gutenberg totally changed our perception of the world and brought the then sum of all human knowledge to anybody who could read (which admittedly at the time was roughly around 138 people). For the first time though the written word could be mass produced and distributed on a wide scale. Always fascinated by the press itself Fry, in what is a totally compelling documentary, goes so far as to commission a working replica of the original in order to get a better insight into Gutenberg  himself.

As much a journey of discovery as it is a straight forward doco, this is definitely worth spending some time with.

Our competition runs until May 30, 2011. To be in with a chance to win one of five dvd’s of Stephen Fry and the Gutenberg Press all you have to do is tell us what the first work produced on the press was called? Also don’t forget about our rather splendid daily newsletter. If you haven’t signed up for this yet then what are you waiting for, a daily hit of all the latest stories, comps, reviews, features and news happening in the world of Memorable TV.

Entries must be sent to competition@memorabletv.com and must be titled “Stephen Fry and the Gutenberg Press”. Good Luck!

Answer: Ars Minor

The Gutenberg Bibles surviving today are sometimes called the oldest surviving books printed with movable type, although the oldest such surviving book is the Jikji, published in Korea in 1377.
...
The Bible was not Gutenberg's first printed work, for he produced approximately two dozen editions of Ars Minor, a portion of Aelius Donatus’s schoolbook on Latin grammar. The first edition is believed to have been printed between 1451 and 1452.
