EXTENDED – Early Bird Registion by 24 June 2011 to participate in a free workshop with The People’s Republic of Animation. Details of the workshop are below.

General registrations close 1 August 2011.

BRIEF

We want you to have creative license to create or use pre-existing material to produce
an amazing short film which features the theme of Wasabi.

For example:

Wasabi could be a character in the short film.
A physical tube of Wasabi may appear in the short film.
The film might be focused on something that is hot like Wasabi.

There is so much room to be creative with this theme, so get cracking with your brainstorming.

Your piece should be no longer than 10 minutes and will need to be submitted on DVD in 16:9 format. Before submitting your film you will need to sign off on the terms and conditions which can be downloaded here. This competition is about celebrating young emerging filmmakers and recognising great local work. Judging criteria includes creativity, effectiveness at communicating film topic and story line, originality and film quality (eg production values, script, direction etc).

“STORYTELLING FOR SCREEN 101″ WORKSHOP WITH THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF ANIMATION

The workshop will be conducted by animation producer Hugh Nguyen from People’s Republic of Animation, who will help participants develop their ideas into a story that will work on the screen. Please note that EVERYONE who has registered for the Wasabi Short Film Competition by 24 June can participate in this free workshop and your film does not have to be animation. READ MORE.
