The upcoming Mildura Writers Festival runs from 14 - 17 July and brings together some of Australia's best writers including Anna Goldsworthy, Shane Maloney and Stefano de Pieri in conversation, Morag Fraser, Professor Alan Frost, Trevor Hogan, Gail Jones, Paul Kane, Jamie King-Holden, Geoffrey Lehmann, John Martin, Peter Rose, Elliot Perlman & Simon West.

So in the name of our insatiable love of laughter, intrigue, democracy, free speech, and of course politicians... this year's ABC Mildura Swan Hill 2011 Poetry Competition asks that you write a 'political poem'.
The poem can be on any subject of politics: the school playground, local, state or federal government, traffic behaviour, the workplace, neighbourhoods. It just has to be based on the politics of it all.
