Ipswich Glistens - Christmas Lights Competition

 Help make Ipswich Glisten and participate in this year's Queensland Times City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition 2011 in partnership with Ipswich City Council. Entry is free and there is over $5000.00 in cash and gift prizes to be won.
 
Entries open Monday, 17 October 2011 for this year's competition and will be open to all residents, businesses and community organisations in the Council area.
 
Entrants are judged according to artistic, visual and creative elements. This year there are nine categories:
 City Wide Winner
Best Residential
Best Rural
Best Business/Organisation
Best Our Street
Best Tree
Best Traditional Nativity Scene
Best Contemporary Nativity Scene
Best Recycled Material Display
 
Important dates and information for this year's competition are:
 
Entries Open Monday, 17 October 2011 (Entry Forms will be available in the Queensland Times from this date)
 
Entries Close 4:30pm Wednesday, 16 November 2011

+Frequently Asked Questions


1.Entry is FREE and only available to residents, businesses and community organisations within the Ipswich City boundaries.
2.Only an original copy of the entry form will be considered as a legitimate entry into the competition. Forms are/will be printed in the Queensland Times, The Satellite and Ipswich Advertiser newspapers.
3.Entrants are expected to have their displays illuminated for public viewing from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, Monday, 28 November 2011 to Friday, 9 December 2011.
4.All entrants agree to allow organisers to publicise their name and address in media, including flyers and promotional material.
5.By entering this competition you agree to Ipswich City Council notifying you of details of this and future Christmas Lights competitions.
6.All entrants agree to allow organisers to publicise photos of their display in media, including flyers and promotional material.
7.All entrants agree to return their corflute at the end of the competition. The awards presentation would be a good opportunity to return this.
8.Nine main categories will be judged. Each eligible entry will be entered into the respective groups, namely Citywide, Best residential, Best Rural, Best Business/organisation, Best Tree, Best Traditional Nativity Scene Best Contemporary Nativity Scene, Best Our Street and Best Recycled Material Display.
9.You will only be judged in the categories in which you enter into.
10.A maximum of 2 categories can be entered in addition to the Citywide category which every entry is automatically included in.
11.The judge/s reserve the right to withhold the prize if there are insufficient entries in the category.
12.The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
13.Judging of an entrant will only apply to exterior displays, and will be assessed from the front of the property.
14.Times of judging will be at the discretion of the judges. Dates of judging will take place from Monday, 28 November 2011 to Friday, 9 December 2011.
15.Displays may be a combination of Christmas lights and decorations only.
16.Our Street entries must consist of a minimum of 2 houses within that street to enter into the category.
17.For an Our Street entry each participating house in the street must complete an entry form and collated entry forms must be sent or delivered to the QT together, not separately.
18.Best Recycled Material Display- use contents of your recycling bin or other recyclable material which can be reused in order to make a Christmas Display.
19.The misuse of electricity can cause injury or death. Entrants must not use any indoor lighting products outdoors and must comply with the safety instructions on all electrical products used. Electrical safety is paramount and must be exercised at all times. Misuse of electricity could lead to your disqualification from the competition.
20.Inspections by qualified electricians, at the entrant's expense, to check the safety of the entrant's display, are recommended.
21.Householder insurance policies should be checked by each entrant to ensure appropriate cover is available.
22.Entrants need to consider the impact their display will have on the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and must plan to ensure that any risks are minimised.
23.Entrants are not to use the footpath, electricity poles, nor any property outside their boundary for any purpose of their display unless they obtain written permission from the relevant authorities.
24.Rental tenants should seek written permission from their landlords before entering this competition.
25.For safety and security reasons the organisers recommend that Christmas Lights are designed to be removed and secured overnight. The security of all aspects of the display is the sole responsibility of the entrant.
26.The organisers and sponsors accept no responsibility for damage, injury, or theft which may occur as a result of your entry into this project.
27.Failure to comply with the Terms and Conditions of Entry may lead to immediate cancellation of an entry and withdrawal of prizes.
28.The Christmas Lights Competition is designed to encourage community participation and the spirit of giving and sharing. Entrants agree to enter the competition in the spirit in which it was intended and act accordingly.
