As part of its First Look program, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) presents a special double film lineup about creatures great and small with Animals Distract Me and Green Porno, directed by and starring Hollywood icon Isabella Rossellini. The films observe the animal kingdom from the perspective of the creatures around Rossellini – including the guide dog she trains and the microscopic dermodex that live on her eyelashes. Rossellini channels the spirit of Charles Darwin (entertainingly played by Rossellini herself) to explain evolution’s impact on the animal world. Discussing ethical eating with renowned Italian chef Mario Batali, and speaking gibberish with fashion editor Andre Leon Talley to illustrate how dogs perceive conversation, Animals Distract Me employs humour and fantasy to show how animals get the better of Rossellini’s attention during a day in New York City. In Green Porno, a series of award-winning short films commissioned by the Sundance Channel, Rossellini reveals the mating secrets of the animal kingdom. The First Look season of Animals Distract Me and Green Porno screens at ACMI from Thursday January 5 – Sunday January 8, 2012. We have double passes to give away.
