I was in the audience last year. Basically I emailed in and about 5 months later, yes 5 MONTHS, I got a call to audition. I went with my partner and they have a small chat with you, basically you have to be personable and have some sort of a 'story' I reckon - I heard a lot of people saying 'they absolutely adore (insert quirky interest - like a grandma who is into motorbikes)' and so forth. I told them I was into a type of car and wanted to collect them, they seemed interested. Basically anything out of the ordinary you'd spend the money on is what they'd like to hear, so Andrew can have an on-going 'theme' to talk to you about or make puns about I think. Say you'd pay off the mortgage and they're unlikely to be sympathetic.
So we got on and they taped 5 shows in the day. It was really tiring but the guy organising the audience is perpetually getting you to be cheery, it's quite funny! Anyway, as there are 6 blocks, ours happened to be the only one that didn't get a chance! Oh well.. it was a fun day, funny to watch Andrew O'Keefe saying 'And to the newsroom now' pause pause... mate can i get some water over here please!!'
We all got a box of chockies. I'm counting that as a win! Oh and free lunch

It was fun, even if you don't get on the podium.
