10 Double Passes to ‘Ravel Double Bill’, courtesy of Palace Opera & Ballet

Score tickets to see a classic opera play out on the big screen.

Palace Opera & Ballet are gearing up to roll out a whole new season of your favourite operas and ballets – from Europe’s finest stages including The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, Shakespeare's Globe and Glyndebourne – which you can now get up close and personal with on movie screens around the country.

And first up is the production of Ravel’s only two one-act operas, which will reunite director Laurent Pelly and conductor Kazushi Ono, who made their Glyndebourne debuts in 2008 with Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. While L’enfant et les Sortilèges shares with that opera a child’s-eye view of a sometimes threatening world, L’heure Espagnole is a thoroughly adult confection.

The play on which Ravel based his opéra espagnole is a clever conceit set in the house of a clockmaker. It compares the wound-up mechanism of a clock with the erotic compulsions driving flesh-and-blood humans.

For your chance to score tickets, simply let us know what is your favourite opera, and why. To enter, shoot us through an email at filmink@filmink.com.au with your answer. Please include your full name and postal address.

Ravel Double Bill will play for a limited season around the country on November 9, 10, 11 and 14.
