http://www.smithjournal.com.au/blogs/photography/jeff-wall-photographs-ticket-giveawayJeff Wall (Ticket Giveaway) It's hard not to get bogged down in superlatives when talking about the work of Canadian photographer Jeff Wall.
His images are so deliberately grand and cinematic, yet minutely detailed, that looking at them tends to give one the impression of burrowing into a set of infinite fractals.
From November 30, the National Gallery of Victoria is staging a retrospective of 26 of Wall's most significant pictures at the Ian Potter Centre.
Jeff Wall Photographs provides the rare opportunity to see his work as it was meant to be shown: large-scale photos set alongside a sequence of backlit transparencies in the style of bus stop advertisements.
The exhibition should be considered essential viewing for photography fans, cinema fans and anyone who has ever looked at their Instagram feed and thought, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I get this whole photography malarkey".
Jeff Wall Photographs opens on November 30. Tickets start at $15 for adults and are available to pre-purchase here.
Thanks to the NGV we have five double passes to give away, valid for both Jeff Wall Photographs and the Thomas Demand show, which opens at the same time. Send your name and address here to enter.Email to: giveaways@smithjournal.com.au
