Copies of ‘Ministry Of Sound Anthems: Sound Of Dubstep’If there’s one genre of music that could be considered innovative over the past year, it’d have to be dubstep. Sure, it borrows from genres before it, namely ‘dub’ in the reggae sense and dance (albeit the beats slowed down somewhat), but so far as cross-pollinating genres go, it’s the freshest we’ve had.
Strange, then, that it took Ministry Of Sound – those guardians of excellent progressive music – a while to deliver their first dubstep compilation album. But alas, Ministry Of Sound Anthems: Sound Of Dubstep proves worth the wait.
Across two CDs, the collection is crammed with tightly coiled productions and sub-bass melodies. CD1 sees UK DJ Calvertron segue works from the likes of Example, Calvin Harris, Nero, Avicii and Steve Aoki, while CD2 features Aussie DJ/producer Filth Collins mixing it up in the name of sheer variety with tracks by Afrojack, Ed Sheeran, deadmau5 and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Now, for a style of music that some say sounds a bit same ’ol (not us!) this list has got to be seen as eclectic.
