Coinciding with Valentine's Day (and a few lovelorn days after), it's aptly timed as a backdrop to a candlelit date, or if you don't have anyone to go with, a musical wallow.
His most diverse album to date, I Know What Love Isn't, merges Spanish guitar, George Michael-ish saxophone and Burt Bacherach-ish tinges into a swarthy mélange, while the titular single proves that he hasn't lost his deadpan delivery. "Hey do you want to go see a band?", Lekman asks. "No I hate bands", is the response. Luckily for Lekman there are plenty who don't.
We have a double pass to any of Lekman's east coast shows to give away thanks to Penny Drop and Spunk. Send your name, address and city here to enter. Email to: giveaways@smithjournal.com.auJens Lekman tour dates:Sydney: Thurs Feb 14, 8pm at the Oxford Art Factory. Tickets $45 + bf from Moshtix.
