WIN! Copies of eerie flick ‘The Moth Diaries’ on Blu-ray

So you might be all tired out and drained from all the bloodsucking that’s been going on in pop culture for the past five years – from Twilight to True Blood and a host of vampire-themed films and TV shows in between. But don’t let that stop you from checking out fresh flick, ‘The Moth Diaries’, which has just hit video shop shelves and online stores.

It’s a film that flirts with vampirism without being cliché. In fact it’s lead character vamp – played eerily by porcelain-faced model-cum-actress Lily Cole – gets away with doing things most vampires can’t, such as walking during daytime.

The gist of the story is this: a new girl, Ernessa Bloch, enrols in an all-girls school when suddenly strange deaths start to take place. She begins corrupting the bestie relationship between good girl Rebecca (Sarah Bolger, The Tudors) and roommate Lucie (Sarah Gadon, A Dangerous Method).  Little does the former know that the latter is day-by-day getting the life sucked out of her by trouble-stirring Ernessa.

The Moth Diaries is directed by Mary Harron – the woman who turned American Psycho into a bold, cinematic gem. Harron’s cinematography is quite possibly one of the most beautiful and haunting in the vampire genre since Werzog’s version of Dracula decades ago. From the very start where we see a lunar moth coming out of its cocoon to reveal its stunning neon wings, frame by frame has been carefully set up so that a little beauty is always evident even in the bloodiest of scenes.

Not as deep as Nosferatu, but certainly not as trite as Twilight, this film is well worth the view.

Courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment, Cream has 10 copies of The Moth Diaries on Blu-ray to give away. To try winning a copy, email your name, address and the Subject heading ‘Moth’ to cream@pobox.com no later than 5pm, Friday 2 March. Remember, you can enter as many times as you like but only one entry per day, thanks.

Go for it, give it a tweet!
