After absolute gems like 24 Hour Party People, Tristram Shandy and The Trip, Michael Winterbottom and Steve Coogan’s latest collaboration The Look of Love is just around the corner, and as our cover star this winter is the lovely Imogen Poots, the film has a special place in our heart.
Poots plays the troubled daughter of Britain’s real life ‘King of Soho’ Paul Raymond (Steve Coogan), a controversial entrepreneur of all things erotic who became Britain’s richest man in the 1990s. It’s an otherwise heartwarming father-and-daughter relationship framed in a debaucherous world of sex, drugs and parties, and Poots is made of glass in this one – with a single look into her baby blues you’ll be hooked. The film carries all the usual hallmarks of a Winterbottom-Coogan collaboration: comedy, character dissection and a heck of a lot of soul. As a bonus, it also stars UK comedians Chris Addison, Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) and a little heyo from Stephen Fry.
