We're running a video competition and we want to invite Australian secondary schools to enter.
Simply use the concepts covered in Tax, super + you to create a short video that addresses one of the competition topics.
Tax, super + you is an online resource to help you teach your students what they need to know about tax and superannuation. Visit Tax, super + you to see how it’s mapped to your state or territory curriculum.
Three entries will be selected to receive a cash prize:
First prize – $3,000
Two runner-up prizes – $1,800 each.
Entries can be submitted from 8 July to 31 October 2013, and the competition is open to all secondary schools in Australia.
ATO TAX, SUPER + YOU VIDEO COMPETITION 2013: TERMS, CONDITIONS AND ENTRY FORM
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is running a competition for short videos on either of the following topics:
What does superannuation have to do with me?
Why would it matter if I didn’t pay tax?
For details see ato.gov.au/tsycompetition
WHO CAN ENTER
The competition is
open to all Australian secondary schools that:
are registered on the Tax, super + you website, and
have at least one Tax, super + you teacher-led course set up at the time of submitting the video entry.
WHAT CAN BE ENTERED
An eligible school can enter a short video that addresses either of the two topics listed above.
The video must be:
in English and from one to three minutes in length
produced by (and the original work of) a student or team of students of that school
coordinated by a teacher at that school, and
submitted as a MOV, MPEG4, AVI, WMV or FLV file no larger than 1GB.
There is no entry fee, but there is a limit of three videos that can be entered by an eligible school.
Also, the ATO will only accept the first three videos received from an eligible school – additional videos will not be accepted.
HOW TO ENTER
Step 1 – register to use the Tax, super + you resource
If your school is not already registered, a teacher will need to go to the Tax, super + you website and click on ‘request school access’ in the ‘Teachers’ block.
Once the school is registered, teachers can set up a teacher-led course for their students.
For more details, see the ‘School Administrator’ and ‘Teacher’ FAQ pages on the Tax, super + you website.
Step 2 – develop your concept
Use Tax, super + you course material to develop your ideas on the topic. You can supplement this with material from other reliable sources.
Step 3 – produce your video
Go to ato.gov.au/tsycompetition for tips on making your video stand out.
Do not include any one else’s material in your video (such as music, footage or images) without their permission. Your video and its use (see ‘Use of winning videos’ below) must not infringe any other person’s rights.
If students at your school have made more than three videos, choose the best three to enter.
Step 4 – submit your entry
Print out and complete the entry form. It must be signed by the coordinating teacher and all participating student/s.
Put a copy of your video (as a file) on a CD/DVD or flash drive, clearly labelled. Retain your original, as the ATO will not return CDs/DVDs submitted. If requested on your entry form, flash drives will be returned.
Send the completed entry form and the CD/DVD/flash drive by mail to the ATO at the following address:
ATO Tax, Super + You Competition
PO Box 9977
Brisbane
Queensland 4001
The competition opens on 8 July 2013, and entries must be received by 5:00 pm (AEST) on 31 October 2013. Late entries will not be accepted.
WINNERS AND PRIZES
Three winners will be selected from the videos entered, with prizes to the following values awarded to the school:
1st place winner – $3,000
two runners-up – $1,800 each.
SELECTION OF WINNERS
A judging panel will select the winners from the videos entered based on how well it demonstrates the students' knowledge and understanding of the topic selected, its effectiveness in communicating key content to young people in Australia, and its creativity and originality.
All decisions of the judging panel are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
The ATO will notify the prize winners and announce the winning schools on the Tax, super + you website in November 2013.
USE OF WINNING VIDEOS
If your video is selected for a prize, you will allow the ATO to use your video on the ATO’s YouTube channel and on its intranet and internet sites.
