A quirky drama that captures first love in all its complications but none of its clichés
At Phoenix Progressive School, where everyone outdoes each other with creative self-expression, Molly would rather hide in her oversized sweaters than risk revealing herself as ordinary. Molly is paralyzed under the weight of her school principal and ultra-liberal parents’ eager expectations. She begins to flourish when her young, handsome English teacher enters the picture and allows her to just be herself. But with each awkward, beautiful step towards an impossible romance, Molly risks alienating everyone she loves.
With striking performances and an excellent soundtrack, Molly Maxwell is an unpredictable, multi-faceted look at a heated issue told through the butterflies-in-stomach, heart-pounding, giddy and crushing experience of first love.
Molly Maxwell screens at the Possible Worlds Festival of American and Canadian Cinema, and we have 10 double passes to the session on Saturday August 10th – with director Sara St. Onge in attendance – to give away readers in Sydney, Australia.
