A boy who is believed to bring bad luck to everyone around him leads his family and a couple of ragged misfits through Laos to find a new home. 1) Information on how to enter forms part of the terms of entry. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
2) Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 and over only. Employees of SBS, Thai Airways, Curious Films, Travel IndoChina, their associated companies and their immediate families are ineligible.
3) The competition period starts on Thursday 22 August 2013 at 10am AEST and ends on Wednesday 4 September at 11:59pm AEST (the “Competition Period”).
4) To enter, participants must:
a) Provide SBS with their contact details, including (but not limited to) name, address and phone number;
b) Participants are automatically signed up to the SBS Film e-newsletter.
5) Participants may enter the competition by going to
www.sbs.com.au/film and following the directions on the website. Participants must submit their entry by clicking on the “Enter Competition” button.
6) Entries are subject to the following;
a) Only one (1) entry permitted
b) Entry must be submitted in accordance with entry requirements to be deemed valid.
7) SBS reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity, proof of Australian residency status at the nominated prize delivery address and/or proof of entry validity in order to claim a prize. Acceptance of proof of identification, Australian residency status and valid entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of SBS. In the event that a winner cannot provide proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
Incomprehensible and incomplete entries will be deemed invalid.
PRIZE
9) The first valid entry drawn will receive a trip for two (2) to Laos (the “Prize”). The Prize will include:
• Return economy flights for two (2) people, including:
- Departing flight from either Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne (arriving in Chiang Rai, Thailand)
- Return flight from Vientiane, Laos to original city of departure (i.e. Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne)
• Eight (
-Day Tour of Laos, including:
- Seven (7) nights’ accommodation
- Breakfast daily, two lunches, one dinner (cooking class)
- All road transport in modern air-conditioned vehicles (touring in Luang Prabang is by foot and tuk-tuk)
- Boat trips on the Mekong River
- One (1) domestic flight
- All sightseeing as specified, including entrance fees
- Expert Western tour leader [subject to group size seven (7) minimum] and local guides throughout
- Tour arrival and departure airport transfers
• $300 spending money
• Travel visas for two (2) people for entry into Thailand and Laos.
10) The Prize is valued up to AUD$7914 (RRP) GST inclusive.
11) All valid entries are automatically entered into the Prize draw. The prize winners will be drawn at random by SBS (or its nominated agent) on Thursday 5 September 2013 at 12pm at SBS Corporation, 14 Herbert Street, Artarmon, NSW 2064. The prize winners will be notified in writing, by email and phone. The names of the winners will be published in The Australian and on SBS website on Tuesday 10 September, 2013.
12) If any prize winner cannot be contacted by 12pm Friday 6 December 2013, SBS or its nominated agent will draw another winner of the applicable prize from all remaining valid entries (“Second Chance Draw”). The Second Chance Draw winner will be notified in writing, by email and phone on Monday 9 December 2013 at 12pm and published in The Australian on Wednesday 11 December 2013.
13) The total value of all prizes is valued up to AUD $7914 (RRP) GST inclusive.
14) There may be circumstances in which the Promoter cannot provide the prizes as described for reasons beyond its reasonable control. In those circumstances, the Promoter will provide an alternative prize or prizes of equal or greater value to the promoted prizes.
15) Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash.
16) SBS accepts no responsibility for any loss, damages, or injury incurred to enter the competition or in connection with taking up the prizes.
17) Once prizes have left the prize supplier’s premises, we take no responsibility for prizes damaged, delayed or lost in transit.
TRAVEL
18) The winner must book their travel within 9 months of being notified as the Prize winner (“Date of Issue”). Travel must be completed within one year from Date of Issue (“Travel Period”). If the Prize winner is not available or able to travel to all destinations forming part of the Prize during the Travel Period, the tickets shall be deemed null and void and the Prize will be forfeited.
19) The Prize winner and their travel companion (who must also be over the age of 18) will not accrue any frequent flyer points from taking the Prize.
20) The Prize must be booked through Curious Films or their nominated agent, prior to Friday 6 June 2014. Bookings are subject to availability and are not re-routable. Once booked and approved by the prize supplier, any changes may incur a cancellation fee or amendment fee at the cost of the winner. Once tickets have been issued they cannot be changed.
21) Blackout dates apply during school holidays and periods of higher season. As part of the Prize, travel is not permitted during black-out periods and higher season periods. The following black-out dates apply up to 31 March 2014.and are subject to change:
- 22 August 2013 to 19 September 2013;
- 7 October 2013 to 5 December 2013;
- 27January 2014 to 31 March 2014.
Black-out dates and higher season periods may also apply after 31 March 2014 and are subject to change. Exact blackout periods will be confirmed with the winner at time of booking.
22) Neither SBS nor prize supplier/s or their associated companies will be held liable for any loss, damage or injury of the results directly or indirectly from the winner taking part in any aspect of the prize. Where relevant, the winner agrees that they take full responsibility for any activities engaged in while travelling and engaging in the prize package and will take out appropriate travel insurance.
23) Prize winners are responsible for all costs not expressly listed as being included in the prize, including without limitation, meals, entertainment, other travel and accommodation, transfers, passports, visas, re-entry permits, spending money, freights, excess baggage, government taxes, departure taxes, ground transportation any tax liabilities, airport charges, any applicable surcharges and any other related costs. Travel insurance is not included in the prize and will be the responsibility of the winner(s). Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect against the additional costs incurred in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
24) Travel arrangements to and from either Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne do not form part of the prize and are the responsibility of the winner.
25) The prize winner and their travelling companion must travel together to all destinations forming part of the Prize.
26) It is the responsibility of the winner to enquire about local issues and conditions at destinations before travel.
27) Neither SBS nor the prize supplier or their associated companies is responsible, to the extent permitted by law, for acts of god, acts of terrorism or war (declared or undeclared) or other events beyond SBS and prize supplier’s control which prevent awarding or acceptance of the prize in accordance with the prize description.
FINAL CONDITIONS
28) SBS’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
29) SBS takes no liability for any tax issues which may arise from accepting a prize in this competition. Consult an independent tax adviser if this is a concern.
30) Prize values are based upon the recommended retail prices at the time of printing (inclusive of GST). SBS accepts no responsibility for change in prize value between now and the ultimate prize redemption date.
31) It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner must comply with all the conditions of use of the prize and the prize supplier’s requirements.
32) Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, SBS (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal or permanent injury or loss of life; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion.
33) SBS and the prize supplier/s assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alterations of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available. If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, due to causes including, but not limited to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of SBS which corrupt or affect the administration security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, SBS reserves the right in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. 34) All entries become and remain the property of SBS. Entrants acknowledge that SBS may use the entrants' names and addresses for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes.
35) All details of the entrants will be used and preserved in accordance with the Information Privacy Principles and SBS Privacy Policy. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the SBS Privacy Contact Officer. Unless otherwise notified, SBS may use the entries and details of entrants for promotional and publicity purposes. Entrants consent to their full names and/or their entries being used in all media by SBS. Any 3rd parties engaged by SBS to run elements of this competition may use entries and details of entrants for the purpose of conducting this competition or for purpose incidental thereto.
