Inspired by true events, The Butler tells the story of chief White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) who served eight American presidents over three decades, including Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan. Working intimately with these world leaders, from this unique vantage point, Cecil Gaines witnessed radical transformations in American history, from the civil rights movement to the Vietnam and Cold War - and how those changes affected his life and family.
Oprah Winfrey plays Gaines’ wife, her first big screen role in almost 15 years. The all-star cast also includes Robin Williams, John Cusack, Vanessa Redgrave, Cuba Gooding Jr, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Jane Fonda, David Oyelowo and Leiv Schreiber.
