Blackfish is the doco on everyone’s mind since it screened at film festivals earlier this year. Now it’s finally ripe for cinematic release and we’re super stoked to be giving away 10 double passes to see this very important documentary, in theatres 21 November.
Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity. Filmmaker Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature’s extraordinary nature, the species’ cruel treatment in captivity, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry. Blackfish challenges us to consider our relationship with nature. It’s incredibly emotional, eye-opening and it will shatter the innocent, family-friendly facade that sea-parks have marketed to the public for years. In our eyes this is compulsive viewing for anyone with a conscience and anyone who wants to keep up with the debate on this issue. We hope you’ll get out to see this film while it’s in theatres.
