 MANDURAH PORTRAIT & LANDSCAPE PRIZE

Welcome to Mandurah Portrait & Landscape Prize

A photographic competition open to all residents of Western Australia.

 

This is your opportunity to showcase your talent in a high profile competition and exhibition.

 

The competition opens for entries on 5 December 2013 and closes 15 February 2014 and there is no limit to the number of images you may submit.

 

The 40 best images as chosen by the judges will be printed for display and become part of a contemporary photographic exhibition. The exhibition will be held prior to and including the Stretch Arts Festival (20 April-4 May 2014) within the stunning Mandurah Performing Arts Centre foyer.

 
CATEGORIES
Portrait Prize

Features an image in which a human being, or part thereof, is the key element.

 
Landscape Prize

Landscape/ Seascape features an area of land or sea, that encompasses natural features or formations, that may or may not include life, but should life be included it would be an insignificant part of the whole.

 
Regional (Peel) Prize

Photographs taken of/within the Peel Region

Each entrant will receive an Ilford sample kit of photographic paper either by visiting and liking Ilford’s facebook page or collection from Mandurah Camera House.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
WHO CAN ENTER:

    Everyone! Professionals, amateurs
    Residents of Western Australia.
    The photographs can have been taken at any time, not only 2013/2014

IMAGE FILES:

    Prints and slides are not acceptable, though negatives, prints and slides can be digitised (scanned) and entered.
    Filenames of images can be anything the entrant wishes (however the images will be automatically renamed when uploaded to ensure uniformity for competition organisers).
    The image must be in JPEG file format and in RGB Colour Space
    The size of the image file submitted via the Studio17 website, for initial judging, must be 2048 pixels on the longest edge.
    Save JPEG file at maximum quality to achieve a file size of more than 1 megabyte (Mb) but less than 2 megabytes. Images sized to more than 2 Mb will not upload correctly.
    No date or time, titles or marks, which may identify the author, are permitted on the actual images
    If the image is chosen for the exhibition, you will be asked for an image that is capable of being printed to 39 centimetres on the longest edge at 300 pixels per inch (PPI).

AUTHORITY:

The organisers decision in relation to all aspects of the competition is final and binding upon every person who enters; no correspondence will be entered into.
ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER:

Promoters and Sponsoring organisations associated with this competition are ineligible to enter, as are members of the organising committee and the judging panel. Entry is open to any and all other professional and/or amateur photographers.
JUDGES:

    The organising committee nominates a panel of three independent judges, whose decisions will be FINAL. CLOSING DATE:  Entries to the competition will close on a date nominated by the organising committee. No late entries will be accepted.

ENTRY FEES:

    The submission fee is $10 per image.  Entries are not deemed 'accepted' until proof of payment of the relevant entry fee(s) has/have been received by the organising committee.

ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES:

    Entries will be deemed as accepted at the time of receipt and not at the time of transmission.  Entries that are incomplete or incomprehensible will be deemed invalid.

INVIOLABILITY OF ENTRIES:

    Images may not be changed, once submitted.

CONSENT:

    Submission of Entry is evidence of the photographer's consent to these regulations.

RESULTS:

    Competition results will be posted on the Studio17 website.

EXHIBITION:

Semi-finalists to be shown as a powerpoint presentation on a screen in the vicinity of the finalists
LEGAL DISCLAIMER:

    No responsibility will be accepted for lost, late or misdirected entries. The Promoters accept no responsibility for any entries not received by them or for delays in the delivery of the entries due to technical disruptions, network congestion or for any other reason.

PROOF OF IDENTITY:

    Entrants can only enter in their own name. The organisers reserve the right to request that award winners provide proof of identity and/or proof of entry validity. Proof of identification and entry considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the organisers. The organiser reserves the right to validate and check the authenticity of any prize claim or entry before awarding a prize.

ORIGINALITY:

    Entries must be owned and created by the entrant/artist.

PHOTOGRAPHIC INTEGRITY:

    The image presented for judging must be 100% photographic in origin. Composite entries are not acceptable. The entrant must have produced ALL aspects of the digital image, including all post-production work (although scanning of non-digital images can be performed by a third party). Entrants must be able to supply a copy or proof of each image used to create a final image, if so requested by the Judges.

TAKING OF PRIZES:

    The prizes must be taken as offered. Cash prize values are in Australian dollars and correct at the time of printing. The prizes must be redeemed within 6 months from the date of being awarded.

ENTRY PORTAL:

    Entry of digital images is via the Studio17 website only. CDs and DVDs containing entries will not be accepted.

JUDGING PROCESS:

    After the initial judging, entrants who are selected for the final judging will be contacted by the organisers. They will all be required to submit a high-resolution file and will be advised of specifications at the time. Failure to provide such an image on time will result in disqualification of the entry.
    The judging criteria will be based on Originality, Technical Excellence, Composition, Artistic Merit and Overall Impact.

ARTISTIC INTEGRITY:

    Due regard will be given to the preservation of the artistic integrity of the images. They will not be edited, altered or demeaned in any way.

USAGE RIGHTS:

The author of the photograph(s) retains the Copyright ownership. Images will be displayed on the Studio 17 website to enable voting for the People’s Choice Award. These images will be of low resolution and will be marked with the copyright symbol and the photographer's name as given on the entry form. All entrants agree to allow their mounted images to be exhibited at the MPLP exhibition (where the names of each photographer will appear) and on the Studio 17 website.
COPYRIGHT AND PERMISSIONS:

By submitting works to this competition you confirm that for each of the works submitted: you are the sole copyright holder; you have not licensed any rights in the work that conflict with the usage rights required by the organisers; you have the permissions of any persons in the work, or if they are under 16, the consent of their parent or guardian, to grant the usage rights required by the organisers; that it does not include trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any other third person or entity; that it does not contain names, likenesses, or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or deceased; you will be responsible for any claim made by any third party in respect of your entry and to fully indemnify the Mandurah Portrait and Landscape Prize (MPLP) and its sponsors in respect of all royalties, fees and any other monies owing to any person or entity by reason of your breaching any of the foregoing.
PRIVACY:

    The organisers collect entrant's personal information in order to conduct the competition.
    If the information requested is not provided, the Entrant may not participate in the Competition.
    Any request to update, modify or delete the Entrant's details should be directed to the MPLP organisers.
    The information will not be disclosed to third parties to the competition.
