Australia’s most important festival of contemporary music, the Festival features ten world premieres and nine Australian premieres over 12 days.

Inspired by mythology, music and natural beauty, Festival guests include Finland-based Australian pianist Aura Go, UK pianist Joanna MacGregor, plus Olli Mustonen conducting three orchestral programs with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, devised to lead listeners through the mysterious and magic north.

Leader has four prize packs for the Melbourne Metropolis New Music Festival to give away. Each pack is valued at $414 and includes a double pass to four Festival events at Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre:

1.Musical Toys by Joanna MacGregor at 7.30pm on Tuesday, April 1. Joanna McGregor is a laterally thinking performer known for weaving together surprising and apt pieces into concerts delivered with passion and brilliant technique. Musical Toys is described as an evocation of childhood wonder – magical but sometimes a little scary!
2.Tapiola by Olli Mustonen and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at 8pm on Saturday, April 5. Shaped by the fairy-tale landscapes of Finland, Tapiola evokes music- to-be-lost-in through a journey in thick dark forests into wild dreams.
3.Frescoes of Dionysius by Olli Mustonen and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at 8pm on Wednesday, April 9. As the concert’s name implies, the music is full of voices, including that of the cello and the orchestra, with a haunting finale featuring soloist Marko Ylönen.
4.Concert Champêtre by Olli Mustonen and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at 8pm on Saturday, April 12. Inspired by the colourful history of a country manor house and the awe-inspiring nature around it, the work explores the strength of the string section embellished by the other-wordly chimes of a harpsichord.
