At three months old Sonia St Claire and her twin sister Sarah were given up by their mother and sent to live in an orphanage. Today, after a lifetime of struggle and survival, Sonia has penned her story. The Girl in the Locker is confronting and sad, but also inspiring.
For 14 years, from 1950 to 1964, Sonia and Sarah were shifted between five different orphanages and children’s homes around Sydney. They suffered unimaginable abuse, sexually, physically and emotionally, that would stay with them forever. Now an author, Sonia shares their story, from their youth through to today, bouncing from one destructive relationship to the next. It has its share or trauma, but is told with grace and honesty and shows triumph of the human spirit.
