Part documentary, part staged-drama, 20,000 Days on Earth captures a day in the life of Nick Cave (the 20,000th, supposedly) as he writes music, records 2013’s Push the Sky Away and drives Kylie Minogue from Brighton to Shoreham.

Interspersed with flashbacks and fantasies, conversations with psychoanalysts and flurries of the artist in action, it’s an absorbing meditation on a life both lived and dreamt.

Guessing what’s real and what’s not is difficult – but that’s also the point, as highlighting the artifice of the rock myth turns into its own insight.
