Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on the 2000 film Billy Elliot. It as been dazzling London’s West End since 2005, and has gone on to captivate audiences around the world. The music is by Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall, who wrote the film’s screenplay.
The story of a young boy who exchanges boxing gloves for ballet shoes, set against the backdrop of the miners’ strike in 1980s northern England. Very funny, deeply touching and universally inspiring. The Musical is very faithful to the original movie by Working Title, with all the key crew maintaining their roles: Stephen Daldry directs, Eric Fellner produces, Lee Hall adapts his award-winning screenplay into Lyrics, and Sir Elton John joins the team as musical composer.
