“The Dream” is a triple bill of works by Sir Frederick Ashton. The program is named for its headline work, The Dream, Ashton’s 1964 take on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Mendelssohn score will be performed by the Australian Opera.
Opening the program will be Ashton’s Monotones II (1965) and Symphonic Variations (1946). Monotones II is set to Erik Satie’s ethereal music and is famous for its pas de trois. Symphonic Variations is renowned for the physical demands it makes on the dancers.
