You don't have to be able to play the piano to enjoy Piano Lessons, coming to Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) on Saturday, July 4.
According to playwright and performer Anna Goldsworthy, the performance is as much about life's lessons as it is about the instrument.
According to Anna, her teacher Eleanora Sivan (played by Helen Howard) taught her about "life" during her weekly piano lessons.
"She was quite remarkable and, as the greatest teachers do, gave me a life philosophy as well as an enduring love of music," Anna said.
Anna draws on her experiences as a piano student and now a concert pianist, teacher and festival director in what was first a book and later became a play.
"Debra Conway suggested I adapt the book to the stage at the Queensland Music Festival and Michael Futcher helped me shape the piece. It was a steep learning curve and a fascinating process," she said.
Anna first performed Piano Lessons in 2011 and toured regionally in Queensland in 2013.
This will be her first time performing in the Redlands.
"It has been rapturously received," Anna said.

"This piece resonates with people, whether it be about music in general or remembering those lessons as children.
"The music itself is powerful and transporting and I hope gives a clearer understanding of playing piano as an art form."
Piano Lessons is also a novel performance tool for pianistic works including selections from Mozart, Liszt and Chopin.
Tickets are $28 to $45.
