If you’re in the market for a wireless speaker system that will sound good anywhere you put it, let us direct your attention to the Sonos Play:5.
Designed with music-streaming in mind, the Play:5 provides maximal sound with minimal setup. Remember audio cables? Those plastic-coated leashes that tied your supposed-to-be-mobile-phone to the stereo when you wanted to play music through it? Sonos basically did away with that entire concept when they came out with the Play:1 a few years back. The Play:5 takes that legacy and, well, amplifies it with superior software and some serious hardware upgrades.
You can reposition the speaker to lie either horizontally or vertically without a loss in sound quality (an internal sensor quickly works out which way you’ve put it and adjusts the sound controls accordingly), and if you want to get some lefty-righty stereo sound action going, you can pair it with another Play:5.
The most impressive feature, however, is probably the Trueplay calibration – a new sonar-like trick that uses your smartphone to test the acoustics of any room and adjusts the EQ to suit. Music to our ears.
Thanks to Sonos, we have a Play:5 to give away. To enter, email your name and address here.
