A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is based on the extraordinary true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. The film transports audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale.

Disney's naval drama “The Finest Hours” is finally ready to set sail. “Star Trek” leading man Chris Pine and Oscar-nominee Casey Affleck will star in the fact-based film, which will be directed by Craig Gillespie. The “Million Dollar Arm” and “Lars and the Real Girl”. The 1952-set film focuses on four Coast Guard sailors that uses a lifeboat in a desperate attempt to rescue 30 sailors who are stranded in freezing water after a horrible storm strikes their oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod. Based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, it was scripted by Oscar nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson (“The Fighter”) and fellow “The Fighter” writer Scott Silver, who also worked on “8 Mile.”
