A black comedy set during the aftermath of the Cronulla riots, Down Under is the story of two carloads of hotheads from both sides of the fight destined to collide.

Sincere, though misguided, intent gives way to farcical ineptitude as this hilarious yet poignant story of ignorance, fear and kebab-cravings unfolds, and what was meant to be a retaliation mission turns into something neither side could have imagined.

The film, by filmmaker Abe Forsythe, had its world premiere at the recent Sydney Film Festival, where it sold out sessions, and earlier this month it was announced as the prestigious Centrepiece Gala film for the Melbourne International Film Festival.
It received a number of 4 star reviews out of the Sydney Film Festival, and has been described as ‘must-see’, ‘gutsy’, ‘unapologetic’ and ‘bold’.
Down Under
Abe wrote the story after learning that he was going to be a father, and worrying about the kind of place he would be bringing his son in to.
While the film obviously examines racism, he also wanted to explore men and how they can struggle to connect with each other and the world around themselves, and how racism is a behavioural by-product of them wanting to belong to something.

Down Under is in cinemas from Thursday 11 August. Thanks to Studio Canal, we’ve got 20 in-season double passes to give away to the film — enter now for your chance to win!

HOW TO ENTER: Enter via the form below. *Entrants agree to receive future promotional offers from Bmag. This prize is not redeemable for cash and cannot be transferred. Competition closes 9am, Monday 25 July.
