One of the key titles at this year’s Sydney Latin American Film Festival, The Dreamer follows Sebastian, a young man immersed in a life of petty crime in Lima. Blurring dreams and reality, he uses imagination to escape the shackles of his narrow existence. Seeking tenderness in Emilia, he dreams and plans for their escape but soon becomes unable to distinguish between reality and fiction. Sebastian soon realises there’s only one way out of the nightmare.
