QMF – On Song Competition

Are you a school student in regional Queensland who loves to write and perform your own music? Queensland Music Festival wants to hear from you!

On Song provides primary and secondary school songwriters in regional* areas of Queensland the opportunity to develop and showcase your talent and skills. Send us your best original song and you could win a unique songwriting experience to help you learn the ropes of the industry and find your voice as a singer-songwriter.

Some of Queensland’s finest songwriters have come from remote and regional towns – and we want to find the next generation.

So, what are you waiting for? Get singing, strumming, writing and recording!

HOW TO ENTER

How do you get involved? It’s easy! Just submit a video of yourself performing one of your original songs and fill out the online application form “Apply for On Song“.

JUDGING

Five finalists will be selected by QMF Artistic Director Katie Noonan & award-winning singer-songwriter Jack Carty to participate in a unique workshop and performance program.

WHAT YOU WIN

Five young singer-songwriters will win a mentorship with Australian musician Jack Carty, including two Skype workshops and a two-day songwriting intensive in July in each finalist’s hometown.
At the end of each two-day workshop, a concert will be presented in the finalist’s home town to premiere the new material written by the young artist, alongside local school ensembles, plus Jack Carty will perform a set of his own fantastic songs.
To help the young songwriters continue to capture and share their music with the world, each finalist will also receive a RØDE NT-USB Microphone.
A huge opportunity to perform with Jack Carty at QPAC in Brisbane will also be awarded to two of the finalists. Queensland Music Festival will pay flight and accommodation costs for each performer and a guardian to travel to and from Brisbane in July for the performance.
ABOUT JACK CARTY

Jack Carty is a truly gifted songsmith and recipient of the biennial APRA Professional Development Award. Over the past year, Carty has toured nationally with Darren Hanlon, Ingrid Michaelson and good friend Josh Pyke; performed his own hugely successful run of shows; and undertaken two tours in the UK and Europe, taking in cities from Brighton to Berlin, and Spain’s famous Primavera Sound Festival. In 2017 Carty will tour Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the release of his newest album, Home State.

Jack Carty also grew up in a small regional town called Bellingen in NSW and understands the challenges and lack of opportunities for young songwriters living in regional areas.

*Please refer to terms and conditions regarding your eligibility.
