Win tickets for you and four friends to experience the phenomenon that was Tranceplant at Brisbane Powerhouse.
If there’s one thing milestone birthdays are good for, it’s taking a look back on the most exciting moments of our lives (as well as daggy PowerPoint slideshows of embarrassing old photos and culinary masterpieces from the Women’s Weekly cake book). To celebrate its 21st lap around the sun, Brisbane Powerhouse is focusing more on the former of these crucial celebratory ingredients, putting together a ten-day program that showcases the building’s colourful history. From star-studded concerts to moving retrospective exhibitions, the old girl will be thriving with festive activity from May 6–15, including one very special event that is bound to get art lovers, history buffs and rebel-hearted bandits all kinds of excited.
Real day-one fans of Brisbane Powerhouse (or our city’s cultural history in general) will no doubt remember Tranceplant, 1994’s full-scale immersive performance and installation that took over the derelict New Farm Powerhouse. It was a ten-night season of artistic free-for-all that ended up involving around 100 performers per night – the sort of thing you had to be there to believe. Well, if you missed out at the time, you’re in luck – the magic of Tranceplant will be revived for one night only on Wednesday May 12 when original producers and participants Andy Forbes (multidisciplinary artist), Jay Younger (artist/curator), Anthony Babicci (stage designer/scenic artist) and Kiley Gaffney (artist/performer) return to the scene of the action for a once-in-a-lifetime Writers+Ideas event hosted by ABC Radio’s Rebecca Levingston.
The Weekend Edition has teamed up with our party-lovin’ pals at Brisbane Powerhouse to give one lucky reader and four guests a night out as part of the iconic arts venue’s 21st birthday. You’ll nab tickets to experience the phenomenon that was Tranceplant, as well as $100 to spend at Bar Alto. Enter below for your chance to win!
