The Rape of Lucretia is the first of Britten’s “chamber operas,” which he envisioned as bold, ambitious works composed on a relatively small scale for intimate settings - the perfect opera to be performed in 'Pocket size'. The opera revolves around a bet made between three Roman officers, Collatinus, Junius, and Prince Tarquinius, while they are at war with Greece.
